How Payouts Work

Everything you need to know about receiving your event earnings through Step.

How payouts work in Step

When dancers purchase tickets to your event, the funds are processed securely through our payment partners. We support three payout methods: Stripe Connect, PayPal, and Wise.

You choose your payout method when setting up as an organizer. Ticket money is held safely while sales run, released once your event has happened and its refund window has closed, and sent out on the weekly payout run. Organizers with a strong track record can unlock part of their sales before the event.

Stripe Connect

Stripe Connect offers payouts directly to your bank account in 45+ countries. Stripe handles compliance, security, and tax reporting.

Requirements

  • A bank account in a Stripe-supported country
  • Government-issued ID for identity verification
  • Business information (for business accounts)
  • Tax information (SSN/EIN in US, equivalent in other countries)

Payout timing

Fees

Stripe fees are deducted from each ticket sale at the time of purchase. There are no additional payout fees.

International cards+1.5% cross-border fee

Fees vary by country. Visit stripe.com/pricing for rates in your region. Step adds a 2.8% platform fee on top of Stripe's processing fees.

PayPal Payouts

PayPal is one of our supported payout methods, available in 150+ countries and 25+ currencies.

Requirements

  • A PayPal Business or Personal account
  • Confirmed email address linked to PayPal
  • Verified account recommended for higher limits

Payout timing

To your PayPal balanceWithin a day of release
To bank account2-5 business days, depending on PayPal in your country

Fees

Domestic payouts$0.25 flat fee
International payouts2% (max $20)

PayPal payout fees are paid by Step. You receive the full amount. Standard PayPal withdrawal fees to your bank may apply depending on your country.

Wise

You don't need a Wise account: just enter any normal bank account in your country. Wise verifies it with your bank, then Step sends payouts there at the mid-market exchange rate.

Requirements

  • Your full legal name as it appears on the receiving bank account
  • Bank account details for your country (ACH for the US, IBAN for the EU, sort code for the UK, etc.)
  • Wise's bank-level verification must pass before Step marks you as connected

Verification

When you submit your details, Wise runs a bank-level check that confirms the account exists and that the legal name matches the account holder. The Wise tab in Step only shows Connected once this check passes. If Wise can't verify, the connection stays pending and no payouts run until you correct the details.

Payout timing

To your bankTypically 1-2 business days for most countries
Coverage70+ countries, 40+ currencies

Wise uses the mid-market exchange rate with no markup. A small Wise transfer fee may apply, depending on the corridor.

Supported countries

Stripe Connect is available in 45+ countries including the US, Canada, UK, EU, Australia, Japan, and Singapore. PayPal Payouts supports 150+ countries worldwide. Wise covers 40+ destination currencies across most major banking corridors. Choose whichever method works best for you.

Frequently asked questions

When do I receive my payout?

Your payout is released after your event ends and its refund window closes, then goes out on the weekly payout run. From there, a PayPal balance sees it within about a day, and bank transfers through Stripe or Wise typically take another 1-3 business days.

Can I get paid before my event?

For your first few events, payouts are held until after the event to protect against fraud and chargebacks. Once you've established a track record, you may be eligible for earlier payouts.

What happens if someone requests a refund?

Refunds follow the policy you chose for the event and happen automatically, straight from the held ticket money. A refund issued before your payout simply never leaves the held balance; one that lands after a payout is deducted from your next one.

Can I change my payout method?

Yes, you can update your payout method at any time in your organizer settings. Changes take effect for your next payout.
