Refunds, made simple

Fair for dancers, fair for organizers. Here's how refunds work on Step, in plain language.

The short version

Every organizer sets the refund rules for their own event, and you always see them before you buy. If an organizer ever cancels an event, everyone is refunded automatically. And there are always protections in place so a refund can be honored if plans change. That's it.

For dancers

Buying a ticket should feel easy and safe. Here's what you can count on:

  • No surprises. The refund policy for an event is shown clearly before you pay, so you always know where you stand.
  • If the organizer cancels, you're refunded automatically. You don't have to chase anyone or fill out a form.
  • If your plans change, whether you can get a refund depends on the policy you agreed to at checkout. Some events are fully refundable up to a date, some are not. It's always shown up front.
  • Your refund is protected. There are protections in place so refunds are always covered if plans change.

For organizers

You're in control, and the rules are simple:

  • You choose your own refund policy for each event: fully refundable, partly refundable, or non-refundable. You set it when you create the event.
  • You keep 100% of your ticket price. A small platform fee is added for the buyer at checkout, not taken out of your earnings.
  • Get part of your money before the event. Verified, established organizers with a good track record can receive a portion of their ticket sales ahead of the event, so you can pay your DJs, artists, and venue up front. The rest is released around your event.
  • Newer organizers are paid after the event. If you're just starting out or still building your reputation, your earnings are released after the event. As you run more great events, you unlock earlier access.
  • If you ever cancel an event, your ticket holders are refunded automatically. A cancellation always means a full refund for them, whatever your normal policy is.

Why it works this way

A dance community runs on trust. The whole setup is designed so that dancers can buy with confidence and great organizers get paid reliably.

  • Dancers are protected. There are always protections in place so a refund can be paid if plans change. Nobody is left out of pocket.
  • Trusted organizers get paid faster. Verified hosts with a track record of great events can access part of their earnings before the event to pay artists and cover costs, because they've earned that trust.
  • It keeps bad actors out. Newer or unproven organizers are paid after the event, so it's very hard for anyone to take people's money and disappear.

In short: dancers buy with peace of mind, organizers get paid with confidence, and the community stays protected. Everybody wins.

A few common situations

The organizer cancelled the event

You get a full refund, automatically. Nothing for you to do.

You changed your mind

Whether a refund is available follows the event's refund policy, the one shown to you before you bought your ticket. If it allows a refund in your situation, you can request it in the app.
