Cookie Policy

What we store in your browser, why we store it, and what we never do

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files a site keeps in your browser so it can remember things between visits. On WeDance they do practical jobs: keeping you signed in, remembering your language, holding on to the choices you make. This page lists every kind we use, and it's a short list.

How WeDance Uses Cookies

Four categories appear in our consent banner. Two of them are in active use today; the other two exist so your answer is already on record if we ever need them:

Necessary Cookies (Always Active)

The site can't function without these, so they can't be switched off.

  • Signing in: a session cookie keeps you signed in as you move around the site. It's protected so page scripts can't read it
  • Security: protections that limit abuse, like rate limits on sign-in links
  • Your consent: the choice you make in the cookie banner, so we don't ask again on every visit

Functional Cookies

Quality-of-life memory. These make return visits feel like return visits.

  • Language: remembers the language you picked so the site opens in it next time
  • Location suggestion: with your permission, we look up your approximate city once so we can suggest nearby events and a fitting language. We remember the suggestion, not your movements
  • Display: remembers interface choices like light or dark theme

Analytics Cookies

With your consent, we collect usage statistics to understand what's working — which pages, features, and events people look at. Nothing runs unless you switch Analytics on in the banner.

  • Pages visited and features used
  • Read as overall trends, not individual profiles
  • Never used for advertising and never sold

Switch Analytics off anytime: collection stops immediately and the identifiers in your browser are wiped.

Marketing Cookies

We don't set marketing cookies, we don't run ads on WeDance, and we don't sell data. No ad networks, no retargeting pixels.

  • Event suggestions you see are computed from what you browse on WeDance itself, not from advertising cookies
  • Links to our social profiles are plain links. They don't load social network trackers on our pages
  • Emails we send don't set cookies on this site

Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You stay in control, in three places:

  • Cookie Banner: on your first visit, accept everything, decline everything, or open the preferences
  • Preferences: the Preferences button in the banner lets you set each category individually
  • Browser Settings: your browser can block, delete, or warn you about cookies for any site, including ours

Note: declining functional cookies means the site forgets your language and theme between visits. Necessary cookies stay on because signing in doesn't work without them.

Cookie Duration

Nothing we store lives forever:

  • Sign-in session: expires on its own schedule, and immediately when you sign out
  • Preference cookies: things like language, kept for up to a year
  • Consent record: your banner choice, kept for up to a year

Third-Party Cookies

Almost everything on WeDance is first-party. The exceptions worth knowing about:

  • Stripe: when you buy a ticket, Stripe, our payment processor, sets cookies for checkout and fraud prevention. Your card details go to Stripe directly and never touch our servers
  • Location lookup: the one-time city suggestion asks a geolocation service where your network is, and only runs if you've allowed functional cookies
  • Content delivery: images and media are served from a content delivery network, which sets no tracking cookies
  • Travel partners: the trip-planning links on event pages go to Booking.com and Omio through affiliate links. They set no cookies here; once you're on the partner's site their own cookie policy applies, and WeDance may earn a commission at no extra cost to you

Each of these companies publishes its own privacy policy, and none of them get to follow you around our site.

Updates to This Policy

If our cookie practices change, this page changes first, with a new revision date. The categories you've already answered in the banner will keep governing anything new.
