Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

Welcome! WeDance builds products that bring dancers together. Our flagship product is the Step mobile application (referred to as "Step" throughout this policy). This privacy policy explains how WeDance looks after your information across Step and every service we offer to the dance community.

Who we are

Step is a product of WeDance, LLC (300 Delaware Ave, Ste 210 #667, Wilmington, DE 19801). Whenever this policy says "we" or "us," it means the WeDance team responsible for Step and our wider dance ecosystem.

This page says what we collect, why we collect it, and what we never do with it. No legal decoding required.

Information we collect

To help you find the right dancers, events, and opportunities, we need a few details. Here is what we collect when you use Step or any WeDance service:

  • Things you give us: account details (name, email or phone number, profile info), your date of birth (used to apply the age rules described below), photos and event flyers you upload, event preferences, payment information handled through trusted providers, and messages you send to other dancers or to us.
  • Things we collect automatically: device details, logs about how you use Step, approximate location (when you turn it on), and performance data that helps us keep everything running smoothly.

How we use it

WeDance uses your information to:

  • Keep your Step account working across devices and features.
  • Suggest events, partners, teachers, and content tailored to you.
  • Process tickets and purchases securely.
  • Communicate updates about events, community news, and new features (you can opt out whenever you like).
  • Improve Step by understanding what works well and what needs love.
  • Apply age-based safety rules, which is why we ask for your date of birth at sign-up.
  • Meet legal obligations and keep the community safe.

Payment processing and payouts

Step uses Stripe, a leading payment processor, to handle card transactions securely, and offers PayPal, Stripe Connect, and Wise as payout methods for organizers. When you make a purchase or connect a payout account, here is how your payment information is handled:

  • We never see your full card number. When you enter payment details, they go directly to Stripe's secure servers. We only receive a token that lets us process your purchase.
  • Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified, the highest level of security certification in the payments industry.
  • For organizers receiving payouts: Your chosen payout provider (Stripe, PayPal, or Wise) collects and verifies your identity and banking information directly. WeDance receives only the information needed to display your payout status and send your payouts.
  • Transaction records: We keep records of your purchases (event name, amount, date) to provide receipts, handle refunds, and comply with tax regulations. These records do not include your full payment details.

You can learn more about how Stripe handles your data in their privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

Who we share it with

We share information only when it is needed to deliver Step or when you say we can. Examples include:

  • Other dancers who view your public profile, classes, or event attendance.
  • Event organizers when you register for their events: they receive your name and email so they can verify your ticket at check-in and send event updates.
  • Travel links on our pages are just links: anything you book on a third-party travel site happens there, under that site's policies, and we don't send them your data.
  • Service providers working under contract with WeDance: cloud hosting, delivery of sign-in emails and texts (including regional SMS carriers), machine translation of event content, and AI services that process content you choose to submit, such as scanning an uploaded flyer to fill in event details or answering questions you ask the in-app assistant.
  • Partners you explicitly approve.
  • Law enforcement or regulators if we are legally required to do so.

We do not sell your personal information. Period.

Keeping your data safe

WeDance uses encryption, access controls, secure hosting, and regular reviews to protect data. No online system is perfect, but we treat your information like our own and continually upgrade our safeguards.

You are in control

Directly in Step's settings, you can:

  • Update profile details.
  • Delete your account, which removes your personal data as described below.
  • Adjust notification and location permissions.

And by contacting us, you can:

  • Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to limit or stop certain uses where the law allows.

Location features

Step uses location to surface nearby socials, classes, and dancers. Location services are optional. You can turn them on or off at any time from your device settings. Some features simply work better when location is enabled.

Age rules and younger dancers

Step accounts are available from age 13. Dancers aged 13 to 17 use Step in a restricted mode built for their safety: direct messaging, voice and video calls, appearing in or using user search, becoming an organizer, receiving payouts, and being listed as event talent are all switched off. They can still browse events, buy and transfer tickets, and follow dancers.

We ask for a date of birth at sign-up to apply these rules, and both our apps and our servers enforce them. A minor's date of birth is used for exactly this purpose and is not shown to other users.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and accounts with a falsified age violate our Terms. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has an account that shouldn't exist or is using a false age, contact us and we will act on it.

International dancers welcome

WeDance serves a global dance community. Your information may be processed in different countries where our infrastructure and providers operate, and wherever it goes, it is protected with the same standards described here. Dance knows no borders, and neither does our commitment to your privacy.

How long we keep things

We keep your information while you maintain a Step account and for a reasonable period afterward to handle requests and comply with the law. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data unless we must keep something for legal or safety reasons.

Cookies and analytics

The wedance.world website sets a small number of cookies to keep you signed in and remember preferences. With your consent — the Analytics switch in the cookie banner — we also collect anonymous usage statistics to improve the site; decline and nothing is collected. Advertising cookies remain off entirely. The full list, and the controls for it, live in our Cookie Policy.

Some event pages include trip-planning links to travel partners (Booking.com and Omio) as affiliate links. Following one takes you to the partner's own site under its own privacy policy; WeDance may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and nothing about your WeDance account is shared with the partner.

The Step mobile apps use Firebase for crash reporting, basic usage statistics, and delivering push notifications. This tells us things like which screens crash and how features are used in aggregate; it is not used to advertise to you.

Policy updates

As Step and the WeDance ecosystem evolve, this policy might change. We will post updates here and notify you about significant changes within the app or by email. Continuing to use Step after an update means you agree with the new terms.
