How Payments Work on Step

Secure, simple payments that let you focus on what matters—dancing. Here's everything you need to know about buying tickets and getting paid.

Your payments are protected

Step partners with Stripe, one of the world's leading payment processors, to handle all transactions. Stripe processes hundreds of billions of dollars annually for millions of businesses, including many you probably use every day.

  • PCI-DSS Level 1 certified: The highest level of payment security certification.
  • Encrypted transactions: Your card details are encrypted and never stored on our servers.
  • Fraud protection: Advanced machine learning detects and prevents fraudulent activity.

We never see or store your full card number. When you save a payment method, Stripe securely stores your information so you can check out faster next time.

Payment methods we accept

Step supports a wide variety of payment methods to make checkout easy, wherever you are:

Cards & Digital Wallets

  • Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
  • Apple Pay (on iOS devices)
  • Google Pay (on Android devices)
  • Link by Stripe (one-click checkout)

Additional Methods (by region)

  • PayPal

  • And more regional options

For dancers: Buying tickets and classes

Purchasing on Step is straightforward:

  1. Find your event: Browse events near you or search for specific congresses, socials, or workshops.
  2. Select your tickets: Choose your ticket type and quantity. Some events offer different tiers or early bird pricing.
  3. Checkout securely: Pay with your preferred method. Your payment is processed instantly through Stripe.
  4. Get your tickets: Tickets appear immediately in your Step app. Show your QR code at the door—no printing needed.

Private classes are offered by talent booked at events—a safety measure that ensures you're learning from verified instructors. Book and pay securely through the app.

Fees and pricing

We believe in transparent, fair pricing. Here's how fees work on Step:

Step platform fee: 1.5%

A small 1.5% fee is added to ticket purchases at checkout. This fee is paid by the ticket buyer, not the organizer. It helps us maintain the platform, develop new features, and support our dance community.

  • No platform fees for organizers: We don't take a cut from what you earn. Fees are added at checkout and paid by the buyer. See our full pricing breakdown.
  • Buyer pays: A 1.5% Step fee is added at checkout.
  • Organizer pays: Stripe processing fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) are deducted from payouts.
  • Free events: Listing free events costs nothing.

For organizers: Getting paid

Receiving payments as an organizer is simple and transparent:

How it works:

  1. No platform fees for organizers: We don't take a cut from what you earn. Fees are added at checkout and paid by the buyer.
  2. Buyer pays: A 1.5% Step fee is added at checkout.
  3. Organizer pays: Stripe processing fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) are deducted from payouts.
  4. Fast payouts: Once connected to Stripe, payouts typically arrive in your bank account within 2-7 business days, depending on your country.

Multi-currency support

Dance is global, and so is Step. We support multiple currencies so dancers can pay in their local currency and organizers can receive funds in theirs.

Currency conversion is handled automatically at competitive rates. You'll always see the exact amount you'll pay before confirming your purchase.

Refunds and disputes

Life happens—events get cancelled, plans change. Our refund policy is designed to be fair for everyone. Each organizer sets their own refund terms, which are clearly displayed before you buy.

If an event is cancelled by the organizer, you'll receive a full refund automatically. For other situations, check out our full

Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Your data stays yours

We only share the minimum information needed to process your payment. Stripe handles your payment details directly—we never see your full card number.

For event tickets, organizers receive your name and email so they can send event updates and verify your ticket at check-in. That's it. Read more in our

Privacy Policy.
